Glennae Davis knows what it means to begin life without every advantage—and to discover that where you begin does not have to determine where you finish.
Her story began in an unstable childhood shaped by family mental illness, inconsistent safety, grief, violence, community pressures, and systems that did not always provide the support her family needed.
Her formal education ended after the sixth grade.
But her education did not.
Glennae loved words. She could read and spell, but writing was difficult. She had thoughts, ideas, feelings, and stories inside of her long before she had the skills to organize and express them on paper.
Years later, as a college student, she jokingly described her sentences to one of her professors as driving on the 405 freeway—stopping, breaking, congested flow, and sometimes difficult to figure out where they were going.
Her professor gave her simple advice: read more.
So she did.
She kept reading.
She kept writing.
She kept learning.
And she kept finding her words.
Today, she is the author of two books rich in storytelling and literary art.
Today, Glennae Davis, BSN, RN, has spent more than 30 years in healthcare, nursing, and health equity. She is a college graduate, registered nurse, educator, and the author of two books rich in storytelling and literary art.
The little girl who completed only the sixth grade became a woman who writes books.
Her experiences taught her that literacy is about more than whether someone can read.
It is also the ability to write, comprehend, communicate, understand information, and find the words to express what you think, feel, know, and need.
Those experiences now inform the work of
G.E. Davis Inc.—from supporting youth and families, to health literacy and self-advocacy education, to Lit 📖 LA, where children, adults, and families have opportunities to discover the power of reading, writing, comprehension, and expression.
Glennae founded G.E. Davis Inc. to help make education, knowledge, support, and opportunity more accessible to people and families whose potential should never be determined by where their story began.
Because where you begin does not have to determine where your story ends.
Why Literacy Is Personal to Me
I completed only the sixth grade, but I have always been a lover of words.
I could read. I could spell. But writing was a challenge.
Years later, when I made my way into college, I remember describing my sentences to one of my professors as a drive on the 405 freeway—long, winding, congested, and sometimes difficult to figure out where I was going.
I had thoughts. I had ideas. I had stories. I had something to say.
Learning how to put those thoughts into words was another matter.
That is part of why literacy means so much to me today.
Literacy is not simply whether someone can read a sentence. It is also whether they can comprehend what they are reading, organize what they are thinking, write what they mean, and find the words to express what they feel, know, need, and imagine.
My sixth-grade education did not determine where my story ended.
I went on to earn my college degree, become a registered nurse, and author two books rooted in storytelling and literary art.
The little girl who struggled to write became a woman who writes books.
That journey is part of the heart behind Lit 📖 LA.
I want children, adults, and families to have opportunities to discover the power of words—not only to read them, but to understand them, write them, speak them, and use them to tell their own stories.
Because sometimes the words are already inside of you. You just need help learning how to get them out.

Meet the Founder
Glennae Davis, BSN, RN is a registered nurse, educator, author, and founder of G.E. Davis Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit advancing health and opportunity for children, adults, and families through education, literacy, health literacy, family support, and workforce development.
With more than 30 years of experience in healthcare and over 20 years as a registered nurse, Glennae brings together nursing, health equity, education, and lived experience to address the gaps that can prevent individuals and families from understanding information, communicating their needs, accessing resources, and making informed decisions.
She is the author of two books, Well Done : Hood Girl To Head Nurse and Operation Mental Health: Practical Lessons on Career Burnout and Recovery, using storytelling and literary art to transform lived experience into education.
Through G.E. Davis Inc., Glennae develops programs that help people strengthen knowledge, literacy, communication, self-advocacy, and the skills needed to pursue healthier futures.
Her newest initiative, Lit 📖 LA, brings another part of her own story full circle—creating opportunities for children, adults, and families to read, write, comprehend, and express their emotions, thoughts, and words through literature and health literacy.
For Glennae, this work is both professional and personal.
Education gave her options. Literacy helped her find her words. Now she is helping others find theirs.
